Non-destructive testing – Metal magnetic memory – Part 2: General requirements.

Publication date November 01, 2007

Scope

This part of ISO 24497 specifies the general requirements for the application of the method of metal magnetic memory of components, units, equipment and structures for various application purposes.

The purposes of the method are the following:

  • Determination of heterogeneity of the equipment and structures stressed-strained state and revealing of stresses concentration zones as the main sources of damage development.

  • Determination of locations of metal sampling in stresses concentration zones for assessment of the structural-mechanical state.

  • Early diagnostics of fatigue damages and evaluation of equipment and structure life.

  • Reduction of testing and material costs with its utilization in combination with conventional methods of non-destructive testing.

  • Quality control of welded joints of various types and embodiment (including contact and spot welding).

  • Express sorting of new and used machine-building products by their structural heterogeneity.

GOST R 52330-2005

State Standard of Russian Federation. Non-destructive Testing. Stressed-Strained State Test of Industrial Objects and Transport. General Requirements

Introduction date 01 September, 2005

Designation and scope

It is known that Stress Concentration Zones (SCZ), occurring due to technological defects during fabrication, working loads or their combinations are main sources of the equipment and structures damages.

In new machine-building products SCZ occur due to structural heterogeneity and fabricating technology.

Presence of SCZ both on new and already used products significantly reduce their lifetime. Therefore control of products’ stress-strained state and SCZ detection using means of non-destructive testing are important national-economic tasks.

SCZ may vary from parts of micron (product microvolume) up to sizes comparable with these of a product itself (macrovolume).

This standard specifies general requirements to application of methods and means of non-destructive testing of stress-strained state on industrial objects and transport at assessment of machine-building products’, equipment’s and structures’ lifetime.

This standard applies to products and equipment made of steel and alloys, cast iron and other structural materials without limitations on size and thickness including welded joints.

ST RWS 004-03

Standard of Russian Welding Society. Non-destructive Testing. Welded Joints of Equipment and Constructions. Method of Metal Magnetic Memory

Introduction date 01 June, 2002

Scope

This standard specifies general requirements for application of the metal magnetic memory method (ММM inspection) for quality control of equipment and construction welded joints working under pressure.

This standard covers equipment and constructions within and beyond the jurisdiction of Gosgortechnadzor (State Engineering Supervision) of the Russian Federation in various branches of industry including manufacturing and service.

The standard may be extended for welded joints of any types of products, pipelines, vessels, equipment and metal constructions as agreed with the consumer.
